Andrey Ruzinsky, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian 102nd military base deployed in Armenia, stated in the Russian Defence Ministry’s newspaper Krasnaia Zvezda (The Red Star) that in case of Azerbaijan’s move to restore its jurisdiction over Karabakh by using force, the Russian military might get involved in the conflict through the commitment it has according to the treaty on collective defense.
According to Ruzinsky, the military-political situation in the region remains very tense. It also supports the Russian border guards deployed on Armenia’s border. The base possesses special artillery devices, missile systems and squadron of combat planes MIG 29.
