Republican Party has new chairwoman

Khatuna Samnidze was elected as chairwoman of the Republican Party at during the congress of November 3. Samnidze was a member of the local legislative body in the Adjara Autonomous Republic in 2004-2008 and a member of the Republican Party since 2005. She worked as the Gender and Conflict Program Coordinator for at the South Caucasus regional office of the Heinrich Boll Foundation prior to becoming the Republican Party’s organizational secretary this year. She was a member of the national committee of the party and organizational secretary since September 2013. Former chairman of the party, and current parliamentary chairperson, Davit Usupashvili, remains a member of the party’s 35-seat main governing body.
Samnidze thanked all the members of the party for their support. "This is great support from the former leaders of the party. I will continue the policy of the party. All the decisions will be adopted through joint discussions. We will together care for the further development of the party," stated Samnidze.
The Republican Party is the most consecutive, stable and wise party in Georgia, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili said in his speech on the fifteenth meeting of the Republican Party. The PM underscored that it was not accidental that he chose the Republicans first when he came in to politics.
“You have made a large contribution to the recent changes and achievements that we managed to do together. There is no more consecutive party in Georgia and it is exemplary to me,” Ivanishvili told the Republican Party representatives. He voiced hope that the Republican Party will raise many political stars for Georgia's political establishment of the future.
The meeting of the Republicans was held at Expo Georgia. 2,000 delegates selected 35 members of the national committee and then the national committee chose the new chairperson of the party, the replacement of Davit Usupashvili. Different topical discussions and an international seminar were also held within the framework of the meeting.
Former Chairman of the Republican Party, Davit Usupashvili, congratulated Samnidze on her election as the chairperson of the party. According to him, she is an active member of the Republican Party. "I am totally content with the party's decision and I am sure that she will further contribute to the party," stressed Usupashvili.
