Alexander Batiashvili appointed as deputy defense minister

The Minister of Defense of Georgia has a newly appointed deputy. Today, Minister Irakli Alasania introduced Alexander Batiashvili as his deputy to employees of the Ministry of Defense. Batiashvili had previously been deputy minister of internal affairs. He has replaced Deputy Defense Minister Zaza Broladze. The Finance Management, State Procurement, and Military and Informational Technology departments are under Alexander Batiashvili's supervision. He will also oversee the LEPL Military Hospital, located in Gori. "I’d like to stress Alexander Batiashvili's qualifications. Having considerable experience, he has confirmed that he is a very good manager and a reliable person. During the last year he carried out effective and quick reforms at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It’s good news that Alexander has been chosen as a deputy defense minister at the Ministry of Defense. He will regulate our structures in order to ensure our army is as good as possible. Our priorities still remain education, logistics and infrastructure. Hence, Alexander is a great candidate for the job."Alasania said. Alexander Batiashvili previously worked in the Investigative Department of the Ministry of State Security. He headed the Constitutional Order Protection Service of the Ministry of Security. He was later head of the Economic Counter-Sabotage and Counterintelligence Department of the Ministry of Security. In 2003-2004 he was deputy head of the Tbilisi Main Division of the State Security Ministry. In 2004 Alexander Batiashvili worked as director of the Expertise and Special Investigational Center LEPL. Later, he chaired the Informational Bureau of Proprietary and Financial Situations of Officials at the Ministry of Justice. Alexander Batiashvili is a graduate of the law faculty of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University. He underwent special preparation courses at the State Security Academy.
