Citrus export increases
Friday, December 27
Georgia has received a good harvest of citruses this year – more than 100,000 tonnes. Adjara is leading in this regard. Georgia has started exporting much of its citruses. At the beginning there were some problems because the country did not have exporting demands or opportunities for the last several years. However, eventually, the situation improved and almost 40,000 tonnes of citruses have already been exported, including 11,800 tonnes to Russia.
Around 50,000-60,000 tonnes of tangerines are expected to be exported to various directions by the end of the year.
Much of this production goes to Russia. The produce is going by sea or by land. Transporting the citruses by sea is cheaper than transport by land.
According to the Head of the government of Adjara, Archil Khabadze, the farmers will receive 55 tetris per 1-kilogram of standard tangerines. Khabadze said the ships are being regularly loaded with the citruses so that he addressed the population to actively provide citruses to keep up with the pace of daily export. (The Messenger)
