Illegal cutting of forests creates landslide zones

Environment protection specialists are alarmed with the increased cases of landslides in Georgia. They say the major reason for this is the illegal and disorganized cutting of the forests by ordinary citizens or businesspeople.
90% of Georgian forests are located in the mountainous areas, and if the forests are cut without a professional system, it creates a favorable situation for landslides.
This is all aggravated by the rains and floods. The previous Georgian administration did not pay due attention to organizing scientifically-approved systems of cutting forests. Moreover, in the quest for big money, a large portion of the forests were sold to “businesspeople” who were only interested in cutting and selling the wood without taking care of the regeneration of the flora.
