According to the decision of the Turkish government, from February 1, 2014, Georgian forwarders must pay $113 USD in taxes while traveling in/out of Turkey. It has been estimated that there are 400-500 Georgian forwarders in Turkey nowadays. They compete with Turkish forwarders who make their profit based on a smaller margin and bigger turnover.
The Georgian forwarders are transporting various goods from Europe to Georgia and back. Any extra payment will eventually become a burden for the Georgian consumers. It should be mentioned that the similar payment (up 200 GEL) is being paid by the Turkish forwarders coming in/out of Georgia. This regulation has been practiced for around three years already.
