President Margvelashvili visits Azerbaijan

The Georgian President, Giorgi Margvelashvili, began an official visit to Azerbaijan on February 12. During his visit, Margvelashvili met with the Azerbaijani leadership.
Following the official meeting, the Georgian president along with delegation members visited the Alley of Honor in Baku, to commemorate the National Leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, as well as the prominent scientist, ophthalmologist, and academician, Zarifa Aliyeva.
The Georgian leader also commemorated the heroic sons of Azerbaijan who gave their lives in the struggle for independence and territorial integrity of the country in the Alley of Martyrs and laid a wreath at the Monument of the Eternal Flame.
The Georgian president will also visit the Gakh district of Azerbaijan on February 13 and meet with local Georgians as well as the city of Gabala.
Margvelashvili on February 12 has already been given an official welcome to Azerbaijan. A guard of honor was lined up for the Georgian President at the square decorated with the national flags of the two countries.
President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, personally welcomed his Georgian counterpart. The Heads of State inspected a ceremonial Guard of Honor as an orchestra played the national anthems of Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to Margvelashvili, while members of the Georgian delegation were introduced to President Aliyev. The presidents posed for photographs.
Following an official welcoming ceremony, Aliyev and Margvelashvili had a one-on-one meeting. The Heads of State hailed the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia in a variety of fields. Aliyev and Margvelashvili expressed confidence that the Azerbaijan-Georgia ties will continue to develop. They also exchanged views over issues of mutual concern.
Margvelashvili met the Prime Minister and the chair of the parliament of Azerbaijan on February 12.
Several documents will be signed during the visit.
