The law on competition to be adopted

A law about competition is being discussed at the Georgian parliament. It envisages the establishment of a “competition agency” under the Prime Minister. It will identify monopolistic companies, investigating their activities and fining them in case of violations.

The Parliamentary minority opposes the bill saying that this agency will be established for exercising political pressure over businesses. The minority admits that while it is important to regulate monopolistic activities in the country, there is a danger that it might hinder the process of developing the economy.
