EU Slams Russian Pressure on Moldova, Opens Door For More Imports
Tuesday, May 20
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on May 15 reiterated that Russian pressure on Moldova is unacceptable and reaffirmed the EU's commitment to sign an association agreement with Chisinau on 27 June.
To counteract Russian trade embargoes, Barroso announced that the Commission will respond positively to a request by the Moldovan government to allow the import of more fruits and vegetables from the country to the European Union.
Barroso described the move as important for Moldova's small farmers.
Barroso also revealed that he will go to Chisinau on June 12 to open an investment conference.
