Russian President Vladimir Putin has nominated Sergey Melikov as his representative in the North Caucasus federal region. Lev Kuznetsov was appointed as the new minister for the North Caucasus Affairs.
These appointments were made because of Crimea’s integration into the Russian Federation.
Melikov has experience in anti-terrorism combat. Kuznetsov, meanwhile, has to solve the socioeconomic problems of the region. Representative of the president should solve political problems, organize elections, regulate ethnicity relations, coordinate the efforts of law enforcement bodies, as well as regulate religious problems and combat corruption.
