From June 1, 2014 big importers will have to pay VAT taxes using a special scheme. The amendment introduced into the tax code of the country will come into force. The benefits, which were granted to their companies with more than 2,000 laris turnover, will be observed.
The initiator of this amendment is the constitution and former businessman and now MP Gogi Topadze. He thinks that the new amendment should put importers as well as the local producers on equal footing. Big importers however, challenge this approach, saying that the lifting of benefits will deteriorate the investment environment. Some even suggest that these benefits should not have been abolished, while on the contrary, they should be applied to all the sides: importers and local producers at the same time.
