Iran’s radar system with 1100-kilometers range comes on stream

The advanced phased array long range radar became operational during a ceremony attended by the senior military officials including commander of Iran's Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General, Farzad Esmayeeli, Iran's Fars news agency reported on June 2.
It should be noted that Iranian media outlets earlier quoted commander of the Aerospace Division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Amir Ali Hajizadeh as saying in June 2011 that the IRGC had put Ghadir radar system into operation.
The Ghadir radar system was tested during "the Great Prophet 6" military drill which was held by the IRGC in June 2011.
The radar system is able to discover air targets, radar-evading planes, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and satellites at low orbits, according to Iranian media outlets.
In May 2012, Hajizadeh said Iran is mass-producing Ghadir Radar systems in great numbers.
Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.
Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
