EU offers Euro30m to fund Georgia’s regional development program

The European Union (EU) has promised to fund a multi-million dollar project that would boost Georgia’s regions.

Georgia’s Regional Development Program is valued at Euro30 million (71 million GEL) and will be fully financed by the EU.

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia said the goal was to share experience and key elements of the EU cohesion policy with each Eastern partner country, with a particular focus on how to reduce socio-economic disparities among regions.

The Regional Development Program document has already been prepared. It is expected to be handed to an inter-agency commission responsible for evaluating the program and offering recommendations to improve it.

If the report is deemed positive, the plan will be sent to the Government of Georgia for final approval, the Ministry said today. (Agenda.ge)
