International tender announced for new Tbilisi Metro station
An international tender to construct a new Metro station in Tbilisi has been announced.
The Tbilisi Development Fund, the municipal entity designed to finance the rehabilitation of the old parts of the capital city, will reveal the winning company chosen to undertake the construction project at the end of September. The existing Metro line will continue from Vazha-Pshavela station and a new station will be built near Tbilisi State University’s Maglivi X building on University St. The new station is expected to begin operating in two years. It is expected to cost between ˆ35-42 million (about 84-100 million GEL) to build the new station. A multilateral finance institution, Asian Development Bank, will fund 85 percent of the total cost and the rest will be covered by the state budget. The majority of the work, including construction of tunnels, was completed during the Soviet era. The Tbilisi Development Fund has released photos of the proposed design of the Metro station.
The Tbilisi Metro is made up of two lines measuring 27.1 km in length and serves 22 stations. Of these, 20 stations are below ground while two are at or above ground level. There are advanced plans to extend the Metro system with a third line, to encompass the Vake district. In 2012, the Metro transported 93.9 million passengers - a significant increase to the 85.6 million passengers transported in 2011.The first Tbilisi Metro station opened in 1966.

Earthquake hits Georgia
An earthquake hit Georgia on Sunday. According to the Seismic Monitoring Center, there was 4.8 magnitude quake at 21:26 near the village of Karaghaji, Dedoplistskaro region. No victims or damages are reported.

UNM concerned by crime bosses returning to Georgia
The United National Movement is concerned over the new pattern of crime bosses, so called “criminal authorities”, returning to Georgia recently. Giorgi Gviniashvili of the party held a briefing today and reported the second fact of return of a crime boss from abroad to Georgia. Gviniashvili says the information about their arrival in the country has been deleted and all this would have been impossible without the support and protection of the government of Georgia.
Giorgi Gviniashvili recollected his party briefing was held last week, where his colleague reported the fact of the arrival of the crime boss Roman Barbakadze, nicknamed Remena, who had “vanished” from the Tbilisi airport and all the data about his arrival was erased. This time, Gviniashvili reported the arrival of Mindia Gordadze, nicknamed Lavasogly, on June 19th. He says all corresponding law enforcement structures were deployed to the airport to arrest the wanted Goradze, but at the last moment they received a command to let him travel to the territory of the country without obstruction. “We demand an investigation of the fact of the rough violation of law. The information on crossing the border of Georgia, video records at Sarpi customs and the records of the Golden Palace cameras should be checked up; the source of illegal command should be revealed and all the responsible persons punished,” Giorgi Gviniashvili said.

Estonia, Georgia discuss military cooperation
Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Alasania met with his Estonian counterpart Sven Mikser as part of an international conference on defense and security in Batumi.
Later Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili joined the meeting.
The defense ministers of the two countries discussed bilateral cooperation in the military sphere and future plans.
Alasania informed his colleague about the main achievements in the transformation of the defense capabilities of Georgia. The strengthening of the defense, increasimg of the defense ministry's transparency and human resource management were discussed as well.
Alasania stressed that the soldier is the main valuable asset, thus outlining the priorities to be decent conditions for military service and medical care for the wounded.
The Georgian Defense Minister also spoke about the participation of Georgian servicemen in international missions. Moreover, the sides discussed the situation in the region and issues related to European security. Alasania thanked the Estonian side for political support to Georgia.

Political security-related document discussed at OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Baku.
"The first paragraph refers to the supervision and monitoring of the Parliament in the defense and security field. The Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security signed a memorandum with the NGO sector. The document also mentioned that this is a good example for other member states of the OSCE to strengthen the parliamentary role and second, the most important paragraph – calling on Russia to comply with international obligations under a six-point ceasefire agreement on August 12, 2008 and de-occupy the territory of Georgia. Thus, we have gained the full support and the Russian delegation could no longer veto the document," Viktor Dolidze said.

EU Law Department to be established at Ministry of Justice of Georgia
The EU Law Department will be established at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Minister of Justice of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani told Rustavi 2 on Saturday.
“We will establish the EU Law Department at the Ministry of Justice in June. The new department will work to bring Georgian legislation closer to European law. I hope that next year we will share the fate of Moldova and our citizens will be able to travel visa-free to Europe,” Tea Tsulukiani said.
