Alasania requests an increase in defense budget

At the parliamentary committee hearing on July 25, Defence Minister Irakli Alasania asked for an 11% increase of the budget for his ministry in 2015. Georgia’s largest defence budget was in 2008 (1.5 billion GEL), in 2009 it was only 879 million GEL, in 2010 - 728 million GEL and in 2011- 711 million GEL.

According to the defence minister, the need for the increase comes from the threats which appeared in the latest developments in Ukraine. It is well known that while in the U.S in April 2014, Alasania asked NATO and USA to deploy defence systems in Georgia.
