Georgian Platoon to engage in the Exercise “Rapid Trident”

On 13-27 September annual international exercise “Rapid Trident” will be conducted in Ukraine, at the training ground Yavoriv in the vicinity of L’viv. NATO member nations and the countries represented in the “Partnership for Peace (PFP) format will engage in the training.

I Infantry Brigade Platoon of GAF will take part in the training too. Along with the Georgian military, around 1000 servicemen from 15 countries will participate in the international exercise, including the military (200 servicemen) from the United States, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, UK, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Rumania and Spain.

According to the training scenario, multi-national brigade will have to operate against unlawful armed formations with combine forces. (Mod.gov.ge)



Georgia to send medical assistance to Ukraine next week

Georgia will send medical assistance to Ukraine next week, Healthcare Minister Davit Sergeenko told InterPressNews.

According to him, the medical aid is already ready. The issue will be raised at the governmental session on September 5.

The Minister said talks have already been completed with transport companies and the first flight will be operated next Wednesday. Davit Sergeenko said the aid cannot be taken by a passenger liner because of large volume of the cargo. It will be sent to Ukraine by a transport plane. (IPN)

Journalist Sopo Mosidze has been appointed as head of the press service of the government’s administration, a representative of the government’s administration told Frontnews on Thursday.

Senior Georgian MP Meets Iranian Parliament Speaker in Tehran

Lawmaker from the ruling Georgian Dream coalition Tedo Japaridze, who chairs parliamentary foreign relations committee, met speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani in Tehran on September 3.

“Deepening economic and trade relations were the main topic of discussion. Prospects for further development of bilateral relationship, as well as developments in the region were also discussed,” Georgian parliament’s press office said.

Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that during the meeting Iranian parliament speaker raised the issue of “big problem” of terrorism in the region and said that it is a “common threat” and fight against terrorism “needs the collective cooperation of all the regional countries.”

Larijani also said that there is a favorable ground for deepening economic ties between the two countries, including in the energy sector, Fars News Agency reported.

In Tehran MP Japaraidze also met Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ibrahim Rahimpour, who visited Georgia in March; deputy head of the Supreme National Security Council Said Iravani, and chairman of foreign affairs and national security committee in the Iranian parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi.

During the meeting with the Georgian lawmaker, MP Boroujerdi, who last yearcriticized Georgia’s decision to unilaterally cancel visa-free rules for the Iranian citizens, slammed “wrong policies” of the West for, as he put it, “spreading of terrorism in the region,” according to the Iranian media reports.

During the visit to Iran, MP Japaridze was accompanied by MP from GD ruling coalition Gubaz Sanikidze, who chairs parliamentary committee for diaspora and Caucasus issues. (Civil.ge)



Georgian IDP youth spend holidays in Slovakia

A central European country is opening its arms to Georgian IDP youth and offering them the chance to spend their holidays at a luxury spa resort complex.

From September 4, dozens of Georgian youth displaced by the Russia-Georgia war in August 2008 will spend ten days at the Luxury spa resort complex Gino Paradise, in Besenova, Slovakia.

While abroad the Georgian youth will meet Georgia’s Ambassador in Slovakia Alexandre Nalbandov, announced Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The initiative was jointly organized by Georgia’s Foreign Ministry, the Embassy of Georgia in the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees.

Georgian-born Slovak businessman Nodar Giorgadze will financially support the initiative.

Meanwhile, the same project was also implemented in Georgia. The country has invited Ukrainian children to spend time in Georgia and experience the sights, sounds and culture Georgia has to offer. (Agenda.ge)
