The panel participants discussed the situation in the region and the challenges Eastern Partnership member countries faced.

Those involved in the discussion, which included Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevicius, stressed how important it was for European Union (EU) countries to support the European aspirations of Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries.

Heavy rain affects several cities and regions

Heavy rain has affected Tbilisi, Rustavi and several other municipalities of Georgia. The emergencies brigades worked in the state of emergency last night and were sent to forty different places, where the ground floors and basements were flooded and roads damaged, however, the emergencies service chief says the four-hour long rain has not inflicted serious damage to the capital this time.

Central Avenue and several streets were flooded in the city of Rustavi. Transport movement was blocked up for a few hours due to the flood, which also caused blackout in the city until the rain stopped. The markets and basements were flooded by the water. The municipal service of emergencies worked whole night. Mayor of the city has also viewed the affected districts of the city and ordered to set up a special commission, which will count the damage and determine the funds for compensation.

The village of Gachiani was also damaged by the rain, which flooded ground floors and basements of houses. Locals say the flood killed their poultry. Nine families were damaged by the last night`s rain. The residents say they have problems every time it starts to rain, because the sewage system does not work properly.

Rain has inflicted damage onto eight villages of the Adigheni municipality. Locals complain that they have been left without harvest this year. The yards, agricultural lands, basements and ground floors were completely covered with water. The hail, which lasted about half an hour, damaged roofs and road infrastructure, causing blockade of the traffic. The locals are asking the municipal authorities to repair the sewage system as they always have the same problems each time it rains.

The municipal government has already set up a commission, which will count the damage and determine the amount of the compensation for the affected families.
