Government to decide issue of construction permits
The government of Georgia will decide the issue of the construction permits instead of the President. The amendment is planned to be made in the 57th decree issued on March 24, 2009. Tbilisi mayor Davit Narmania presented the issue at today’s session.
“The government of Georgia will decide the issue of the construction permits instead of the President. This is an amendment of technical character,’’- Narmania told reporters after the government session.
In addition, the mayor presented one more issue to the cabinet considering making amendments in the government’s decree about determining economically regulated spheres. (IPN)
Former Defense Minister speaks about law-enforcement bodies
Our American partners clearly see that the law enforcement agencies are being used for political purposes in Georgia, Georgia’s former Defence Minister Irakli Alasania has told Maestro TV.
"As for the prosecutor’s office’s steps, it is clear that the prosecutor’s office is not acting independently”, he said.
Several days ago Irakli Alasania arrived in Canada and the United States, where he had a number of high-level meetings. (Frontnews)
Foreign Minister pushes forward Russian-Abkhazian treaty on international lever
The Foreign Ministry of Georgia is working to make the international community see the dangerous consequences which might follow its indifference.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Dondua said about this while discussing the preparation of the session of the UN Security Council, which must be dedicated to the agreement signed between Russia and occupied Abkhazia. "Consultations with the delegations of the UN Security Council's permanent and non-permanent members as well as their Embassies in Tbilisi and the respective capitals are underway. If the issue is not properly prepared in advance, an official address will be followed by an official refusal and it will not be possible to raise this topic again. False information has been recently spread, as if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not delegated the UN mission to request the review of the so-called Russian-Abkhaz Agreement-related issue at the UN Security Council session. The MFA started to work on this issue just as soon as Russia had proposed the signature of this treaty to Abkhazia. Convening of the UN Security Council session does not mean that we’ll definitely get the desired result. Do not forget that the "respondent" will be the Russian Federation, which has great experience working at the United Nations and lobbying the issues that are desirable to it, whereas this is the first attempt for Georgia to raise its issue at the Security Council session. So, the Foreign Ministry is working in this direction and we’ll make an official request when this issue is properly prepared. Agitation and excessive politicization of the process, however, will just hinder the achievement of the desired results", - said Dondua. (PIA.ge)
Japanese Embassy releases statement on signing treaty between Abkhazia and Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has authorized the Embassy to issue the following statement:
“It is Japan's consistent position that peaceful resolution to the conflict in Georgia's occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia in line with the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders are essential for the peace and stability of the country and the entire South Caucasus region.
Japan's position remains unchanged also on the so-called "Treaty on alliance and strategic partnership."
Japan and Georgia oppose any attempts to change Georgia's internationally recognized borders.’’ - Says the statement. (IPN)
1 247, 206 GEL issued for members of Tbilisi City Council as bonuses
Members of Tbilisi City Council have received 1 247,206 GEL as bonuses from November 2013 to June 2014, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) reports.
According to the IDFI, former chairman of the City Council Irakli Shikhiashvili has received GEL 54,516 over a period of eight months; Giorgi Muskhelishvili – 45 430 GEL; Giorgi Tkemaladze 43 890 GEL and Jaba Samushia - 43,890 GEL.
As for the situation following June 2014, the organization notes that no bonuses are given to the new members of the City Council, and the employees also receive fewer bonuses. (Frontnews)

UNM unveils new facts of nepotism. The parliamentary opposition states that country is ruled by clans. UNM member Irma Nadirashvili publishes the information about facts of nepotism in Mestia and Oni. She reports that the heads of local Governments employed their relatives on high positions. According to the published information the husband of the Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi – Kapiton Jorjoliani was appointed as the governor of Mestia. His uncle is the member of Mestia City Council.
Irma Nadirashvili says that the daughter-in-law of the Majoritarian MP of Mestia was appointed as the first Deputy of the Governor of Mestia. His relatives are heading the Social and Financial departments. (Rustavi 2)
