Meeting with Head of EUMM

Minister of Defence of Georgia Mindia Janelidze met Head of European Union Monitoring Mission. Minister hosted Mr. Toivo Klaar in the Ministry of Defence.
Janelidze emphasized the significance of the EUMM mission in Georgia, which remains the only international mechanism. The regional security environment was also touched upon during the meeting. The sides drew attention to the treaty on “Alliance and Strategic Partnership” signed between Russia and Abkhazia and the participation of the Georgian army in the EU-led peacekeeping operations.
“We had a very good meeting with the Minister of Defence. I thanked him for the good cooperation that I have enjoyed with the Georgian authorities, and in particular with the Ministry of Defence. We discussed both – cooperation with the EU Monitoring Mission and Georgia’s relationship with the European Union and NATO. The minister emphasized that Georgia’s commitment to moving forward on both the NATO and EU tracks. Moreover, we also discussed the regional security situation as it regards to Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the so- called Treaty between Abkhazia and Russia, but also in regard to situation in Ukraine and how that may have an impact on the wider region. It was a very fruitful meeting and I am convinced that the relationship between EUMM and the Ministry of Defence is as good as it has ever been,” said the head of EUMM after the meeting.
