Japan Assists Georgia

On January 28, 2015 the Signing Ceremony for the following two projects within the framework of the “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” was held at the Official Residence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia:
(1) The project for the provision of medical equipment to Georgia Red Cross primary health clinic in Dedoplistskaro of Kakheti region; (Project scale: 90,992 USD)
(2) The project for upgrading the irrigation system for agricultural use in Akhalkalaki District; (Project scale: 87,542 USD)
The Ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia Mr. Toshio Kaitani, representatives of the Georgian authorities related to the project, and members of appropriate organizations.
The Grant Contracts of the above-mentioned projects in Fiscal Year 2014 was be concluded between the Embassy of Japan in Georgia and two non-governmental organizations: Georgia Red Cross Society and Public Movement “Multinational Georgia”. The first project aims at provision of modern medical equipment to the mobile primary health clinic that will provide free-of-charge primary medical services to about 10,000 socially vulnerable persons annually in entire Dedoplistskaro district. The second project’s objective is to provide modern irrigation system in Akhalkalaki district that will increase productivity and competitiveness of about 100 local farmers and introduce a new irrigation technology to the region.
The “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects” (GGP) provides assistance to relatively small projects implemented by NGOs and aims at improving the living standards of Georgian people. It applies to projects in the field of public health, education, social protection, environment and poverty reduction. Since 1998, one hundred forty three GGP projects have been financed in Georgia by the Government of Japan. The size of Japan’s Official Development Assistance to Georgia has reached over 370 million USD, covering a wide spectrum of areas such as improvement of economic infrastructure, agricultural and social sectors, culture and human resource development.
