The President of German Bundestag visits Georgia

The President of German Bundestag Norbert Lammert said Germany supports Georgia’s integration into the European Union and his country is the next to ratify the EU Association Agreement with Georgia.
The President of the German Bundestag arrived in Georgia on February 12 for his 4 day official visit to hold meetings with President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili and Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili.
“We once again reviewed the important issues we both are concerned about – peace and security in the region – and agreed that Germany plays a very important role in the solution to these problems and the problems of Georgia, the occupation of Georgian territories. The threats to Georgia are well known to the German Government and are considered on all international events with the participation of Germany,” the Speaker of Georgian Parliament Davit Usupashvili said at the joint press conference held after the meeting with his German colleague.
According to Lammert, Georgia-Germany relations have been close for many years now.
“We are interested in the stable political and economic situation in Georgia and we, Germans, will try to contribute our part,” Lambert said, and once again confirmed his support to the Georgia –EU Association Agreement, which will soon be ratified by the Bundestag.
Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration was the main topic discussed at the meeting between The President of German Bundestag and the Georgian Foreign Minister.
"This visit is a clear and firm demonstration of support. The German Bundestag is ready for concrete steps, including the timely ratification of the AA… We discussed a number of measures to be taken in the Bundestag for supporting Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration. The German side expressed readiness to intensify all tools for political and economic support,” Minister Beruchashvili said after the meeting.
Lammert praised Georgia for the reforms it has implemented under the AA and said the country has been showing the correct dynamics.
