Farewell Ceremony held for soldiers from Resolute Support Mission

The farewell ceremony for the Georgian company participating in the operation “Resolute Support” mission in Afghanistan was held at Vaziani military ground.
The ceremony opened with the Georgian National Anthem performed by the military orchestra of National Guard. The selected company of the 31st Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Brigade held a minute of silence in the memory of the soldiers fallen for Georgia’s territorial integrity and in international missions.
Defence Minister Mindia Janelidze delivered a speech to the soldiers and focused on Georgia’s contribution to global security.
“Today we have the farewell ceremony of the company of the 31st Battalion. The rotation process will continue till the 51st Battalion fully returns to Georgia. I’d like to highlight that this company underwent training in Georgia and Germany as well. NATO military instructors and the leadership estimated the unit as one of the best and ready to carry out the mission. I am proud and would like to outline that our soldiers fulfill their tasks professionally.”
Chief of General Staff of the GAF Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze, wished the company success on their mission, and safe return home.
At the end of the ceremony, Chief Chaplain of the Armed Forces Father Davit, blessed the company.
First Deputy Defence Minister Gocha Ratiani and the leadership of the Georgian Armed Forces attended the farewell ceremony.
Based on the December 12, 2014 parliamentary resolution, the selected company of the 31st Battalion will carry out the “Resolute Support” mission for a six-month term in Afghanistan. The main task of the Georgian military is to provide security for “Resolute Support” headquarter in Kabul.
