Georgia, step by step, is moving to digital broadcasting, which means that the analog signal will be switched off.
Head of the Agency of Digital Broadcasting Nino Kubinidze said that process is cut down in seven stages.
During the first stage, the analog signal will be switched off in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Marneuli, Kojori and Sagarejo. Later other regions will follow. High mount regions will be switched off last. The process is scheduled to end at August 25.
The Agency of Digital Broadcasting stated that everything is already ready for launching digital signal.
For receiving a signal, citizens will need a special tool, the price of which is approximately 60-80 GEL. 211, 000 socially vulnerable families will receive tools from government.
“We are informing the population maximally and call on them to get ready for the changes,” stated Kubinidze.
Georgia has an obligation to move to digital broadcasting since signing the Geneva 2006 agreement. The transition was supposed to be carried out on June 17, however, it was postponed due to the June 13 flood.
Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) is a set of standards that define digital broadcasting using existing satellite, cable, and terrestrial infrastructures.
