Russia launches large-scaled military trainings that will cover its southern part, as well as the occupied regions of Georgia Abkhazia and South Ossetia and annexed Ukrainian territory of Crimea, Russia’s Defense Ministry statement reads.
The training is scheduled to last for a month through which artillerists and military pilots would practice and improve their skills.
The training are scheduled to conclude for September 18.
Georgian analysts state that holding the training is one of the levers of Russia to demonstrate its power and increase its influence on the region.
Georgia’s former officials stress that that through the training, Russia causes a threat for the whole of Europe and its security.
Georgia’s Defence Ministry admits that the recent training are the continuation of Russia’s aggressive policy to Georgia.
“We are trying to empower our defence field to be able to resist the Russian actions,” Deputy Defense Minister Besik Loladze said.
Georgia’s Former Defence Minister Irakli Alasania has stressed that the best step taken by the government in this situation is strengthening the country’s defensive capabilities and improving the situation in the economic field.
“We should be dependent only on ourselves,” Alasania stated.
Military analyst Irakli Aladashvili stresses that it is neither the last nor the least military training exercise to be conducted by Russians.
“However, training on the de-facto regions of Georgia would not be large-scale as there are not special polygons for long-distance shooting,” Aladashvili said.
Analysts stress that Europe has already adjusted its military doctrines to the threats from Russia and they advise the current Georgian leadership to change military doctrine in such a way to respond to current challenges.
