Blast on Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline

An explosion occurred on the section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline running through the Sarikamis region of Turkey’s Kars province, the Anadolu Agency reported August 25.
Reportedly, the explosion was arranged by PKK. Gas supply through the pipeline has been suspended.
The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (South Caucasus Pipeline) is over 700 km. Gas produced from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via this pipeline. The gas is supplied to Georgia and Turkey.
Shah Deniz reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas. The contract to develop the field was signed June 4, 1996. (Trend.az)
