Georgian soldier injured in Afghanistan feels better

The Georgian soldier who was injured while patrolling in Afghanistan on September 22 has recovered Georgia’s Defence Minister Tinatin Khidasheli said while visiting the serviceman, Paata Rostobaia, at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany on September 28.
Rostobaia received severe wounds when he was shot, while another Georgian soldier, Vasil Kuljanishvili, was killed in action. He was the 31st soldier to die on operations since the deployment of Georgian troops to Afghanistan in 2010.
“We saw a very optimistic situation in the hospital. Rostobaia feels better. As the doctors said, he will fully recover very soon and continue rehabilitation afterwards,” Khidsheli said.
The Minister stressed that her Ministry would take the wounded soldier’s family members to Germany to see their loved one.
“After Sergeant Rostobaia returns home, we will render his family all kinds of assistance needed for his full recovery,” Khidasheli added.
Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze, who accompanied the Minister to the hospital, stated that the doctors were making good forecasts.
“I would like to assure his family members that Sergeant Rostobaia is in a very good condition. He is not the first wounded Georgian soldier in this hospital. All our warriors successfully recovered here,” Kapanadze said.
Georgia has committed about 750 troops to the Resolute Support mission, meaning the country remained the largest non-NATO contributor to Afghanistan.
In July 2014 Georgian troops ended their four-year long deployment in Afghanistan’s southern province of Helmand.
