Gov’t increases IDP and refugee budget by 60 million

Georgia’s Minister of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees, Sozar Subari, has visited the eastern Tetritskaro Municipality to oversee the provision of new accommodation for IDPs.
The Minister presented new houses to three internally displaced families, two of them large families composed of seven and six members.
The families had had the opportunity to look for an appropriate, vacant house in any rural area nationwide, and in the frame of the state programme 'House in a Village', the Government took responsibility to buy it.
Since 2012 the Ministry of IDPs, Accommodation and Refugees has purchased 510 houses in various parts of rural Georgia for IDPs, 92 of them located in the eastern Kvemo Kartli region.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated several days ago at a Governmental meeting that since 2012, 10,400 IDPs have been provided with new accommodations.
“In 2012, state money allocated for IDPs and refugees was 25 million GEL; for 2016, the sum will be raised to 85 million GEL,” Garibashvili said.
The PM also emphasized that the current state leadership fulfilled its pre-election promise and purchased existing accommodations for more than 10, 400 IDP families.
The country’s top official stressed that his Government would continue supporting IDPs and refugees in the scope of the increased budget.
