Georgia and Ukraine will get visa-liberalisation, German Die Welt reads

The European Union (EU) plans to establish visa-free travel with Georgia and Ukraine by the middle of 2016, German newspaper Die Welt reads based on information from an unidentified EU diplomat.
According to the source, both Georgia and Ukraine will have be granted a visa free regime. However, Ukraine still needs to do more in its efforts to rid the country of corruption.
MP Levan Berdzenishvili commented on the issue, saying that he was waiting for positive assessments from the Council of Europe over the fulfillment of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan by Georgia.
“We expect that the report will be positive. Huge work has been done to achieve a positive outcome. This was a test for the government and we proved we could deal with a serious task,” stated Berdzenishvili.
Meanwhile, the second session of the Association Committee was held concerning the trade issues between Georgia and the EU; the EU side positively assessed the fulfillment of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) commitments by Georgia, as part of the Association Agreement signed last year.
According to Georgia’s Ministry of Economics, representatives of different governmental agencies attended the meeting together with several EU representatives.
According to the Ministry of Economics, the committee discussed issues such as the coordination of DCFTA implementation, promoting customs service and trade, trade with goods, intellectual property issues, etc.
As the Ministry stated, the corresponding agencies provided the EU representatives with information about conducted and ongoing reforms taken in line with the DCFTA commitments.
