The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA) welcomed the international community’s efforts that have led to the development of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) related to Iran’s nuclear programme.
The Georgian Ministry also welcomed the decision to implement the Action Plan based on the Report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), published on January 16, 2016.
“The aforesaid decision and the successful implementation of the agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear programme represent an important step towards opening up new opportunities for the region and the entire world,” MFA stated.
On July 14 2015, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union formed the JCPOA to ensure that Iran’s nuclear program will be exclusively peaceful.
October 18 2015 marked the Adoption Day of the JCPOA, the date on which the JCPOA came into effect and the participants began taking necessary steps to implement their JCPOA commitments.
January 16 2016 was the date of the next stage, which marked the Implementation Day of the JCPOA.
IAEA has verified that Iran has implemented its key nuclear-related measures described in the JCPOA.
As a result of Iran verifiably meeting its nuclear commitments, the US and the EU have lifted nuclear-related sanctions on Iran, as described in the JCPOA, the US Department of State announced.
