“I welcome the process that was launched by the Prime Minister,” the President of Georgia said after meeting with the inter-party group of the non-parliamentary opposition.
The President commented on Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s decision to meet with the non-parliamentary minority and discuss a range of issues, including proposed election reforms.
According to him, more openness is a prerequisite for the establishment of a truly European culture in Georgia.
"Last year we were very actively involved in the creation of a forum to reach a consensus with all political forces concerning the basic rules of the game.
“I welcome the process that was launched by the Prime Minister, because more openness is a prerequisite for the establishment of European culture in Georgia. Similar discussions will bring us to higher European standards,” said the President.
Giorgi Margvelashvili held an hour-long meeting with the inter-party group of non-parliamentary opposition on the elections issues as well.
Of course, it is more European when the country’s top officials meet with all political factions in the country and discuss various issues with them.
Even in the event that the parties are unable to agree, the peaceful style of negotiations is a fine indicator of the country’s progress as a European nation.
The fact that the country’s top officials are able to recognize the value in each other’s opinions is also welcomed, and speaks volumes about state unity on crucial issues.
It will be more appreciated if the national leadership continue such practices and a constructive relationship becomes characteristic for Georgian politics.
