Tender winner Anaklia Development Consortium to construct Anaklia Port

Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC), which is the tender winner among 12 international companies, will construct Anaklia’s deep-sea port.
The statement was made by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, at a press-conference on February 8.
According to the PM, the consortium has been founded by TBC Holding and Conti International, an American company, which is a well-known developer company in respect of infrastructural and capital projects in the U.S. Other contractors of the ADC are the well-known sea port designer company Moffatt & Nichol, and a leading Dutch consulting company in port transactions, Maritime & Transport Business Solutions.
Kvirikashvili noted that the port will be developed in several phases. The initial stage of construction will begin this year, and when the environmental consultations have been completed, the construction process will be resumed in 2017.
“I hope the construction will be timely resumed. This will bring new opportunities to Georgia in order to fully enact our Silk Road concept. This will bring thousands of new jobs. We also intend to arrange a free industrial zone around the port, which will breathe new life into our country,” stated Kvirikashvili.
According to the PM, during the first phase of the project - which includes the first three years of the port’s operation - its capacity will be at least 7 million tons of cargo annually.
The ADC expects the project will create about 3,400 jobs during the construction stage and 6,400 jobs to operate the port after its completion.
The founder of TBC Holding, Mamuka Khazaradze, noted that the Anaklia port will link Asia and Europe.
“This is the beginning of a new era in Georgian history, unprecedented in its scope and ambition. This is a unique challenge for our country, bringing new opportunities not only for Georgian people, but also for people in the region as well,” said Khazaradze.
The Anaklia Black Sea Port will be located approximately on 400 hectares. Ships with a capacity of 10 000 containers will be able to enter and stop in the port. Moreover, the port will provide services to larger ships, whose docking in the port was previously problematic.
