Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikahsvili claims Georgia will introduce the German model of higher education, which means that the Government will finance studies for the country’s most needed professions.
The PM stressed that the German model of higher education was the “most effective one.”
“I believe that Germany as a country was the founder of the modern education system,” Kvirikashvili said.
The PM empheaised that through the new model the Government would finance professions in demand by certain industries and not only those desired by aspiring students.
“The financial plan to implement our strategy will be stretched over five years. Such an approach towards higher education is important, as currently we actually encourage unemployment through financing less-needy directions for the country,” the PM said.
“For instance, our education institutions annually produce five times more bankers than are needed, while we lack professionals in the fields of animal husbandry, food technology, veterinary and a number of others,” the PM added.
Kvirikahsvili stated that the education reform might cause certain changes within the existing educational institutions for them to cope with the necessary adjustments.
Since coming to power at the end of 2015, the PM raised the issue several times, discussing the importance of education for Georgia’s economic advancement.
Apart from his proposed reform of Georgia’s higher education, the PM also initiated changes in primary and secondary education.
