Georgia, German Foreign ministers hold meeting

Within the framework of his official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze met his German counterpart, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The two ministers discussed a broad spectrum of bilateral relations between Georgia and Germany. Special attention was paid to the process of Georgia’s integration with European and Euro-Atlantic structures and the progress made in this regard. Mikheil Janelidze emphasized the importance of the German government’s support for the development of Georgia, as well as for the fulfilment of its European integration goals.
“During the meeting it was stressed that Georgia will have Germany’s compete support to receive visa-free travel with the EU,” Janelidze said.
The sides also spoke about the need to use and develop the existing potential of economic and trade relations. Promoting the German business communities’ interest in the Georgian economy and encouraging the attraction of German investments to Georgia was outlined as a priority task for the Georgian Government. Special attention was paid to the development of bilateral co-operation in the areas of culture and education.
The Ministers also discussed the situation in the occupied regions of Abkhazi and Tskhinvali. The Georgian government thanked their German counterparts for their firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two FMs also met with Georgian public officials, who are studying communication issues in Germany within a German-initiated project.
