Minister: “If IDPs won’t pay communal fees, they will be suspended of gas and electricity”

The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees of Georgia, Sozar Subari, says if the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) living in mass settlements after the Russian-Georgian war of 2008 will be suspended of gas and electricity if they avoid paying monthly communal fees.
The Minister said the Government has twice supported the people and annulled their obligations in this regard.
“We warned everyone that they had to start to pay. We arranged it so that each month they will have to pay 15 GEL. Those families which do not pay 15 GEL will be suspended of gas and electricity supplies," Subari said.
According to him, many families who have arrears, are neither vulnerable, nor poor, and not even IDPs in some cases.
The Minister also stressed that some political parties encouraged the people not to pay their liabilities and communal fees and as it is an election year, some parties are promising to forgive the debts and win votes.
