The National Football Team of Georgia has a new coach in the form of Slovak football trainer Vladimir Weiss, who was chosen for the post on March 14.
The President of Georgia’s Football Federation, Levan Kobiashvili, has already presented the new trainer.
Weiss signed a two year contract with Georgia. According to a member of the Executive Committee, Roman Pipia, Weiss' salary will be less than that of former trainer Kakha Tskhadadze.
“Beside the salary, Weiss will receive a bonus payment for any and all successful games. This paragraph was added to his contract,” stated Pipia.
The post of the main trainer of the national team become vacant after the dismissal of former trainer Tskhadaze on January 26. The reason of his dismissal was the issue of salary, as the Football Federation informed Tkhadadze that they would cut his salary and move to a bonus system, though the offer was rejected by the coach. After this Kobiashvili, addressed the Football Federation’s Executive committee and demanded Tskhadadze’s dismissal.
During his coaching career, Weiss has won the Slovak Corgon Liga and reached the group stage in the 2005-06 season of UEFA Champions League. He coached FC Saturn Moscow Oblast from February 2006 to June 2007, bringing several Slovak footballers from his former club to the team. In June 2007 he returned to FC Artmedia Bratislava, where he was described it as the "old-new coach".
Since 2008, he has been the head coach of the Slovakian national team. On 14 October 2009, he led the team to the historic success of Slovakia's first-ever qualification for a major tournament, with Slovakia winning the qualifying group thanks to beating Poland 1-0 in an away match in the final qualifying game. On 24 June 2010, he led the Slovakian side to the World Cup quarter finals after a 3-2 win over Italy. In late January 2012, he parted ways with Slovakia on his own accord following the team's failure to qualify for the Euro 2012 tournament. Nowadays, Weiss works in Kazakhstan for FC Kairat, which is very famous throughout the CIS. Weiss left Kairat at the end of November 2015.
