Speaker of National Assembly of South Korea visits Georgia

“Georgia and South Korea both have serious problems with our northern borders,” said Chairman of Parliament Davit Usupashvili during the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, Chung Ui-hwa.
“Our countries are fighting for peace and stability. We both have serious problems with our northern borders and we see the troubling developments of North Korea's aggressive actions. Georgia supports the Korean people in resolving these problems. Also, Korea is a supporter of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and we always feel this support,” stated Usupashvili.
According to Usupashvili, Korea is the fourth country in Asia in terms of developed economy and is an important global player in many directions.
“Georgia is pleased that relations between two countries are increasingly deepening at the political level,” he said.
Usupashvili also noted the fruitful economic relations between Georgia and the Republic of Korea.
“Korean billion-dollar investments have already been launched in the energy sector, as well as significant projects in heavy industry. Chung Ui-hwa also stressed the importance of cultural relations and noted that in all of this, the Parliament of Georgia will be one of the flagships of cooperation,” stated Usupashvili.
Chung Ui-hwa spoke about the prospects for cooperation between South Korea and Georgia as well as the importance of promoting peace in the world. He stated that Georgia will attract the attention of the whole world and will become a model country.
"Korea has achieved industrial development in a very short period. This development was achieved with assistance from other countries and now we will try to share this assistance and experience to those in need,” stressed Chung Ui-hwa.
At the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding between Georgia and South Korea was signed.
On April 23, Chung Ui-hwa will meet the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
During the visit, the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea will visit the National Museum and the National Gallery exhibition. They will also visit Mtskheta, and the Kazbegi and Kakheti regions.
