The Black Sea Arena, which was built by the Cartu Group founded by Georgia’s ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili and equipped with ultra-modern technical capabilities, has been gifted to the Government.
Construction of the concert hall cost 200 million GE in totalL. An agreement was signed by the Head of the Cartu Fund, Nikoloz Chkhetiani, and the First Vice-Premier, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitri Kumsishvili.
The concert hall, which was designed by German architect company Drei Architekten, can accommodate about 10,000 spectators on circular grandstands and will host concerts, sporting events and other public events.
The handover ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili. He thanked the international charity foundation Cartu, and its founder, former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, and expressed hope that the concert hall will soon host high-level concerts, theatrical performances and sporting events.
“This is a wonderful gesture from Cartu Group. This project was funded by Ivanishvili, and our government is very grateful to him. It is a regional development project. This is a very important project for future boosting of the region,” stated Kvirikashvili.
According to Kvirikashvili, such a large-scale facility will help to boost tourism, and allowing local and foreign investors to develop their business.
The PM underlined that during the construction phase of the hall, more than 600 people were employed.
"The concert hall’s technical capabilities are fully in accordance with international standards. Spectators will enjoy complete comfort. The hall space is enough to host music concerts, theatrical performances and sporting events. Accordingly, the hall is ready to host the highest level of any star or show,” stated the PM.
The PM said that with the concert hall, the government received a cultural programme set with global stars, which is financed by the Cartu Fund. The amount received after selling the concert tickets will go to the state budget.
