New life for Green Cape at Batumi Botanical Garden

A million dollars has been injected into the rehabilitation of a summer leisure area at the Green Cape on the shores of the Black Sea.

The upgrades have transformed the Green Cape into a modern holiday resort, with shady areas where people can get out of the summer sun and enjoy restored infrastructure, including a seafront pier.

Located nine kilometers north of the Black Sea resort city Batumi, the Green Cape is situated at the entrance of the Batumi Botanical Garden.

People can swim off the beach or walk along the restored 131.5 metre-long pier and leap off the lower level into the sea below. The new pier utilised refurbished wooden planks and a sturdy metal railing with 30 lights to prevent people falling off the structure.

A total of 997,676 GEL (about $425,455/ˆ384,367*) was allocated from the state budget to finance the Green Cape rehabilitation works.

The Green Cape and its pier were not the only locations that were being rehabilitated, announced Batumi City Hall.

To make the Batumi Botanical Garden more attractive for visitors, plans were put in place to widen the streets in the Green Cape area. The building of pavements, proper drainage systems, curbs and protective walls were also planned. Decorative slabs and outdoor lighting will also be installed.

In parallel to these works, the territory adjacent to the entrance to the Botanical Garden is also being remodelled.

Just under 2.4 million GEL ($1.02 million/ˆ0.9 million*) will be spent from the regional budget, said Batumi City Hall. (Agenda.ge)
