The Minister of Health, Labour and Social Affairs, Davit Sergeenko, announced on Thursday that the Ministry will move to an electronic prescription system and gradually all medical records will move to an electronic format.
In connection with the issue, the Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs Davit Sergeenko held a press conference.
According to Sergeenko, the electronic prescriptions system testing started several days ago, and at this stage the project involves 30 pharmacies. After the testing period is over, the methods will be introduced to every pharmacy throughout the country.
"They will be signed in an electronic format and will no longer be required to affix a sheet of paper. Pharmacists will have access to them through a special network,” stated the minister.
According to the Minister, an electronic prescription system is more comfortable and efficient.
“The project will also extinguish the issue of doctors’ unclear handwriting, as well as the errors in dosage will be excluded. In addition, high standards of quality control will be introduced,” Sergeenko said, and added that without the consent of the patient no one will have access to any personal data.
The pilot programme of the electronic prescription is part of the first stage of the planned reforms, which implies that the whole system will eventually move to an electronic service.
Moreover, on August 10, Sergeenko stated that the ministry will begin the electronic training of doctors and primary care physicians. A special ceremony was held for the initiative of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and the British Medical Journal (BMJ), which intends to introduce electronic learning platform for Doctors and primary care physicians in Georgia.
