EU offers ˆ30m to support Georgia’s governance reform

Georgia is striving to build European governance in the country where the Government and society will together be involved in major decision-making processes.

Thanks to a new ˆ30 million grant offered by the European Union (EU), Georgia will be able to implement its governance reform faster and more efficiently than planned.

We will have to put much effort in this area to ensure complete compliance with the undertakings provided by the EU Association Agreement and to create a governance system that is aligned with EU regulations and engages citizens in the decision-making process,” said Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at today’s Government meeting.

The PM and Georgia’s Ambassador to the EU Janos Herman will discuss details of the $30 million grant contract at a briefing tomorrow.

The governance reform was part of the Georgian Government’s four-point reform agenda that aimed to develop the country’s economy.

The four major reforms planned for Georgia was announced by PM Kvirikashvili in February.

The four-point recovery plan included new tax benefits, infrastructure plans, governance reforms and an overhaul of the education system, and was the Georgian PM’s plan to increase economic development. (agenda.ge)
