State investigates alleged prostitution at nightclubs

Georgia’s Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, made detailed explanations over his recent statements over alleged cases of prostitution and discrimination in some nightclubs of central Tbilisi, located nearby the Square of Roses.
The PM stressed that he was informed that underage Georgian females are involved in prostitution in some nightclubs, where Georgian men are not allowed.
Kvirikashvili said that the alleged cases are double violation of law – the prostitution of under-aged persons and discrimination against Georgian men.
“This is a very big problem. For me, this is disrespect of our country’s dignity and this problematic issue should be solved as soon as possible,” said the PM.
Kvirikashvili added that the situation in these nightclubs is especially unbearable for Georgian men, which is why they are not allowed in such places so as not to provoke any confrontations.
He commissioned the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia to study the case in order to eliminate the problem timely.
Moreover, the PM’s assistant in human rights issues, Sopo Japaridze, will also be involved in the process.
Kvirikashvili underlined that the problem should be solved only within the law and by state institutions.
“This is a complex issue and it should not be solved emotionally. Prostitution is a violation of the law in Georgia and it should be solved by state institutions. This is why I gave this task publicly,” stated the PM.
