Georgia’s external trade grows 22% in January 2017

Georgia is increasing its trading powers with European Union (EU), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other countries.

In January 2017 Georgia’s external trade grew by 22 percent and totalled $651 million, reported the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Last month the value of Georgia’s exports increased by 45 percent to $177 million, while the value of imports increased 15 percent to $474 million.

Georgia’s trade deficit equalled $298 million in January 2017, which was a 46 percent share of the country's total trade turnover.

Trade deficit is an economic measure of the negative balance of trade in which a country's imports exceed its exports.
