Parliament’s consent to be no longer necessary in case of military condition, natural disaster or epidemics
The Prime Minister will make a decision in case of military situation, natural disaster or epidemic diseases and parliament’s consent will no longer be necessary.
The amendments planned to be made to Georgia’s constitution encompass all this. According to Speaker Kobakhidze, military forces are used every day during wartime, and it is impossible for the PM to present a request on using troops to Parliament every day.
As for using military forces to cope with natural disasters and epidemic diseases, Irakli Kobakhidze said that constitutional requirements were violated in 2015 during the Tbilisi flood, as military forces were slow to mobilise to deal with the catastrophe. (IPN)
