Georgia’s external trade up 15% in January-May

Turkey, Russia and Azerbaijan are Georgia’s top trade partners this year, shows preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Georgia’s top 10 trade partners in January-May 2017 made for 65.8 percent of the country’s total trade turnover, with Turkey ($591.1 million), Russia ($430.5 million) and Azerbaijan ($316.3 million) filling the top three spots.

Trade with EU countries

Trade turnover with European Union (EU) countries increased by 15.3 percent year-on-year (y/y) and amounted to $1090.5 million, said Geostat.

Exports were worth $260million (40.7 percent higher), while imports reached $830.4 million (9.1 percent higher).

Trade with CIS countries

The external trade turnover of Georgia with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries totalled $1285.1 million in January-May 2017 – a 36 percent higher compared to the same period of 2016.

Exports were worth $383.4 million (62.7 percent higher) while imports equalled $901.8 million (27.2 percent higher).
