EU market open for Georgia’s Black Sea fish

Thursday, June 22
Black Sea fish and fish products have a high chance of making an impression in Europe and becoming one of Georgia’s leading export products alongside wine, hazelnuts, blueberries, wool, and honey.

The European Union (EU) has just included Georgia in the list of "third countries” allowing Georgia’s Black Sea fish and fish products to be imported to the EU.

This will be the third animal product to be allowed into the EU market after Georgian wool and honey.

The next step is to present the list of business operators recognised by Georgia who will be allowed to export Black Sea fish and fish products to the EU.

Inspectors of the Directorate General Health and Food Safety and Food and Veterinary office of the European Commission visited Georgia in order to observe the food safety control system and make an audit of Black Sea fish and fish products.

As a result of their mission and recommendations, Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture created an action plan and made certain steps toward making Georgian legislation closer to EU legislation.

Thanks to the efforts made by Georgia, the EU included the country in the list of "third countries” and allows the sale of Black Sea fish and fish products to its market. (Agenda.ge)
