Passenger numbers at Georgian airports rise 48.61%

The number of passengers served at Georgia’s three international airports increased by 48.61 percent in January-June of 2017, while the air transportation of goods rose by 40.07 percent.

So far this year, 1,609,183 passengers took regular or charter flights from Georgia’s three main airports: Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport, Batumi International Airport and Kutaisi David Aghmashenebeli International Airport.

Tbilisi International Airport alone served 1,287,228 passengers between January-June, which was a 44.11 percent increase year-on-year (y/y), said the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency.

Kutaisi International Airport served 184,840 passengers this year – a 93.69 percent increase, while Batumi International Airport served 133,418 passengers on regular or charter flights, which was a 43.95 percent increase y/y.

Georgia’s rural airports also saw an increase in passengers’ numbers this year.

Queen Tamar Airport in Mestia, Svaneti region, served 3,240 passengers, which was a 116.87 percent increase y/y.

Meanwhile, the Ambrolauri airport in Georgia’s Racha region served passengers for the first time this year, transporting 457 passengers.

In the first six months of 2017, the air transportation of goods also displayed a 48.47 percent rise. (agenda.ge)
