“We do not have only political dialogue”

On Friday during his official visit to Germany, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze has met with Minister of European and Federal Affairs, Hessen Lucia Puttrich and Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth. The high-ranking officials discussed political and economic cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Janelidze informed Lucia Pattrich about the situation in breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Germany’s Minister of European and Federal Affairs mentioned Georgia’s progress in implementation of the Association agreement and expressed interest in economic cooperation.
The same day, Janelidze met Minister of State for Europe Roth in Germany’s resort town Bad Hersfeld. The officials emphasized the importance of 2017 as the year of friendship between Georgia and Germany.
“I am very much delighted to host the foreign minister of Georgia tonight here in Bad Hersfeld, in the heart of Europe and in the heart of Germany. The Minister’s visit to Germany underlines how close and reliable the relationship between Germany and Georgia is. And we would like to send a positive signal to the future,” Roth stated.
He said the relationship between two countries is not based just on political dialogue, it is also an invitation to civil society, and to representatives from culture, the media, science, and business to improve cooperation.
Mikheil Janelidze arrived in Frankfurt and Bad Hersfeld at the invitation of Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth.
The sides spoke extensively about Georgia-Germany relations, Georgia’s European integration and Germany’s political support.
Janelidze informed Michael Roth about the important steps the country has taken towards European integration and implementation of the Association Agreement. Preparation of the Eastern Partnership Summit and Georgia’s expectations were discussed too.
Georgia’s status as the Guest of Honour at the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair to raise awareness of the country and its culture was also given due attention by the sides.
