Ruling party Mayoral Candidate slams Tbilisi parking situation

Kakha Kaladze, the Tbilisi mayoral candidate of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, says in case of his victory he will solve the chronic parking problems in the capital by arranging parking lots at different locations in the city.
Kaladze made the statement at the presentation of his transport policy. He said that if Tbilisi residents vote for him, they will have a better parking system.
The GD candidate named several locations where underground parking lots will be arranged by his team. He listed the central railway station, the vicinities of Tbilisi Philharmonic Hall, Marjanishvili Avenue, Pushkin Square, Dinamo Arena, the Isani metro station, the Mayor’s Office, Gulua Square, the Varketili metro station and Gegeshidze Garden as all possible locations.
As it was reported at the presentation, Kaladze's team plans to set up parking lots for 3000 vehicles. According to Kaladze, the interests of pedestrians are prioritized in the new transport policy, including safety at sidewalks and crossings.
The GD candidate also added that along with solving issues over the city’s parking system, he will do his best to make public transport more comfortable and popular among Tbilisi residents.
“I will be the person who will popularize public transport,” he added.
Local elections in Georgia are scheduled for October 21.
The opponents of Kaladze in the race will be as follows: an independent candidate, Aleksandre Elisashvili; Kakha Kukava from the Democratic Movement and Free Georgia; the United National Movement’s candidate Zaal Udumashvilil; Elene Khoshtaria from European Georgia; Teimuraz Shergilashvili of the Movement for Building; Irma Inashvili from the Alliance of Patriots; and Giorgi Gugava from the Labor party.
In total, eight candidates will compete for the position of Tbilisi Mayor.
