(TBILISI)--Similar political aspirations, security challenges and deepening economic cooperation between Georgia and Moldova were the main topics of discussion during a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and his Moldovan counterpart, Pavel Filip.
As part of his first official visit to Georgia, Fillip also took part in Tbilisi Belt and Road forum on November 28-29.
Kvirikashvili hosted his college, highlighting Moldova’s importance as close strategic partner for Georgia.
“We have common political aspirations and important formats in which we work together. I would like to thank you for cooperation, for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia. I also want to express our solid support for Moldova's territorial aspirations,” Kvirikashvili told Filip.
“In addition to friendly relations, we share common interests with the EU and unfortunately we also face territorial conflicts that are very painful for us and it is important to share our experiences with each other," said Filip.
The parties also held an extended meeting to discuss deeper economic ties.
During the meeting, members of the two countries’ cabinets signed the Convention on Prevention of Double Taxation and a Cultural Cooperation Program for 2018-2021.
The two countries also agreed to share experience in various fields, adding the second meeting of the Georgia-Moldova Economic Cooperation Commission, established in April, will be held in early 2018.
“We discussed issues concerning Euro-Atlantic integration and the reforms carried out in our countries... We’re happy with the progress...and we will continue cooperation within our Euro-Atlantic integration strategy,” said Kvirikashvili.
