Georgia’s Education Min Offers Scholarships to Students Affected by South Ossetia Conflict

(TBILISI) – Over 1,000 students living in villages adjacent to Georgia’s Russian-backed breakaway region South Ossetia will receive scholarships from the Ministry of Education for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The state’s financial assistance is aimed at families affected by the actions of Russia’s occupation forces who regularly move the de facto border line further into Georgian territory.

Students whose families have had their property damaged of illegally seized by Russia’s armed forces will receive full financial backing from the Georgian government.

The ministry also announced that they will help the students participate in exchange programs abroad.

In 2016, 905 students received scholarships for their studies, up from 736 students in 2015.
